326 days until Ironman Arizona.
Endurance brick today. Went as easy as I could stand on the bike and managed to keep my HR mostly in check, but the run was a different story. I had to walk a couple times just to get my HR anywhere near zone 3.
Thinking I need to find somewhere better to do bricks than from my house: There’s no way to leave here without dealing with hills and the attendant HR spikes.
- Bike: 34.80 miles, 2:10:21 elapsed, Avg Speed: 16 mph, Avg HR: 146 bpm, Avg Cadence: 97 rpm.
- Transition: 6 minutes. Ack! Need to work on that.
- Run: 5.22 miles, 1:00:47 elapsed, Avg Pace: 11:39/mi, Avg HR: 156 bpm
EDIT: Went back to my zones and realized that I did okay on HR after all. My average HR on the bike was right in the middle of zone 2, and on the run it was right at the lower bound of zone 3—even my max HR spike for the entire run (169 bpm) was still in zone 4, so everything was mostly on track. Except for the fact that this “easy” brick felt really hard.
But no flats!
